Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
DBT Individual Therapy
Individual sessions are 50 minutes in length and occur weekly. Sessions help identify problematic behaviors and ineffective thought patterns. An array of DBT techniques are used to help clients discover problematic or ineffective patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
Multi-family DBT groups
Multi-Family DBT Groups are designed for the youth and their parents/caregivers to come together and learn the same set of skills. This enables a common language to help support the youth in skills application. Having other families in the group allows for a build-in support for youth and parents/caregivers alike. The skills group is different than group therapy in that DBT skills group is like a classroom set-up with interactive teaching and learning. The skills taught in group help with managing emotion dysregulation, impulsive behaviors, self-injurious behaviors and relationship difficulties. In group, clients are also coached on ways to share within the group without being detailed about behaviors that maybe triggering to others.
The skills taught are grouped in the following five models: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, and Walking the Middle Path.
